Sacred gin is at once fresh and creamy, with a well-balanced blend of botanicals that will have you savouring every sip. It’s the flagship spirit of the Sacred Spirits microdistillery, and is made to the founder’s secret recipe.
Luckily, it’s not completely secret! We know that the gin is made with juniper from Tuscany and Bulgaria, and is scented with angelica and orris roots. So far, so normal as far as a classic gin goes. But then you’ve got fresh citrus notes of organic pink grapefruits, sweet oranges, lemons & limes from Spain and Italy. And – the really special part – the gentle, warm notes of cinnamon and frankincense from the Sultanate of Oman.
Sacred gin is used at the Dukes Hotel Bar to make a gin Martini where the glass is only lightly coated in vermouth. It’s also fabulous in Negronis, or enjoy with a premium, aromatic tonic water and plenty of ice.
The Sacred Spirits distillery was born in 2008, in a room in founder Ian’s house in Highgate, North London. Ian was drawn to science and distillation from an early age, and experimented with distilling wine before moving onto gin. Together with his partner, Hilary, Ian began putting together his own distillery. He taught himself how to distil botanicals, and even commissioned bespoke glassware from York to give him complete control over the distillation process.
The first batch of gin Ian made included juniper, cardamom, nutmeg and the unusual addition of frankincense. The Latin name for frankincense is Boswellia sacra – and this gave the Sacred brand its name.
